Melinda Fischer was born in 1985 in Gyimes, a Hungarian-speaking enclave of Transylvania, in Romania. After pursuing a dual degree of English and American Studies, and Library and Information Sciences at the University of Szeged in Hungary, Melinda moved to New York in 2010. She began working at Huntington Hospital in 2013 in the Nursing Administration/Payroll Department, and joined the Cancer Registry Department in 2022. Through her duties as an Administrative Support Assistant tasked with case finding and follow-up work, she became increasingly interested in the field of cancer registry. After completing the Fundamentals of Abstracting Workshop in 2023, Melinda sought qualification through AHIMA as an Oncology Data Specialist, passing the ODS Certification Exam in the Spring of 2025. She continues to enjoy the detail-oriented, challenging nature of work in this ever-changing field. Outside of work, Melinda enjoys spending time with family, reading, and hiking
